They may be well educated or not; rich or poor; married or unmarried; employed or unemployed." The above quotation from the Introduction to Paedophilia: Policy and Prevention illustrates the enormous difficulties faced by the community in tackling the problem of paedophilia. This collection of papers from an Australian Institute of Criminology conference held in Sydney in April 1997 summarises the issues relating to detection and reporting; investigation, prosecution and defence; public education; treating of offenders; and implications for civil liberties.
